
Alexandra
has both formal art training and practical, marketplace
design experience. She graduated with her Bachelors of Fine Arts
in scientific illustration from The University of Georgia in 1997.
After graduating she worked as a graphic designer and graphics development
specialist where she honed her design and computer skills in both
a corporate and freelance environment. She then returned to school
to graduate with her Masters of Arts in
biomedical
communications from The University of Texas Southwestern Medical
School at Dallas in 2004.
Her skill set ranges from traditional drawing skills to more modern
techniques such as 3D modeling and photography. She’s as comfortable
in front of the monitor as she is behind the easel.
She has won a number of awards and received several honors for her
artwork. She received a Certificate of Merit in Instructional Color
for her illustration, “Heart,” from The Association of
Medical Illustrators, 2003. A recipient of the Vesalius Trust Research
Grant, for her graduate thesis project “Educating Health Care
Professionals in the Threat of Biological Attacks: A Digital Guide
to Smallpox,” 2003. She won 1st place for her fine art piece
entitled “Human Nature” in the ‘On My Own Time’ Art
Show, a juried corporate art show, 2002. Her illustrations of “The
Lifecycle of the Common Gray Treefrog” won 3rd place in the
Annual Student Scientific and Medical Illustration Judged Exhibition,
