The illustrations for this project contrast a new technique for closing a deep inferior epigastric perforator (DIEP) flap using the strategic placement of barbed sutures (upper left image) and minimal undermining versus the traditional closure which requires drains, bulbs, more extensive undermining and quilting sutures.
